A Severn craft
Coracles — small, round, hide-or-canvas boats worked with a single paddle — were used on the Severn for fishing and ferrying long before the Iron Bridge spanned it. The Ironbridge Coracle Trust exists so the skill of building and paddling them does not vanish with the last generation who did it for a living.
The Trust builds coracles at the shed at the Green Wood Centre, runs sessions and demonstrations, and takes to the river for the coracle regatta — one of the friendlier spectacles in the Gorge calendar.
