Maws Craft Centre is in the surviving courtyard buildings of the former Maw & Co Victorian tileworks (factory built 1883; wider site largely demolished 1974–1977, with the courtyard ranges restored and reused as studios in the early 1980s). Because these are historic buildings, some areas have steps, uneven surfaces, narrow doorways and limited space, and not all accessibility features can be fully adapted. Many shops in Ironbridge (especially around The Square) sit in historic Georgian/Victorian buildings — including the old Butter Market arches created in the early 1800s after the Iron Bridge opened and the market relocated here.
